KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 15 (Bernama) -- Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) expects existing information and communications technology (ICT) companies in Malaysia to grow further as exporters of ICT products and services within 12 years, its chairman Tan Sri Abdul Halim Ali said Tuesday.
"MDeC will focus on helping small and medium scale industries to grow, specially in marketing their companies and products overseas," he told reporters after launching the "Get IT Certified" initiative under the MSC Malaysia Capability Development Programme here.
"To attract foreign buyers to come, remain and grow in Malaysia, we need to have enough skilled manpower," he said.
MDeC vice president Ng Wan Peng said there was demand from some vendors looking for people to come up with innovative ICT products.
"MDeC is coming out with a few certifications which focus on recognising the individual skill of innovation," she said.
Tan Sri Abdul Halim Ali Ng said the certification could help to enhance the track record of an individual in getting bigger contracts from various vendors.
"This new certification is absolutely different compared to previous certifications which focus on project management," she said.
MDeC is currently hosting the MSC Malaysia Capability Week, which started yesterday and will end on Friday, to encourage ICT professionals and MSC-status companies to look into their human capital development as the core to enhance their capability and competitiveness.
About 600 organisations have benefited and more than 100 certified since the Capability Development Programme was launched in 2004.
