Teluk Kalong - TATI University College (TATIUC) will have a new well-equipped student accommodation complex which can accommodate 1,000 people at one time. The construction will begin end of this year and is expected to complete within 2 years.
The Rector, Dr Rozailan Mamat @ Ibrahim said the State Government has approved the construction of the accommodation complex, thus solving the problems that their students experienced before.
He said the hostel facilities available at this time cannot accommodate students' needs and the increasing number of students and the applications that TATIUC receive every year locally and internationally.
He said, with the completion of the complex, it can accommodate 2,400 students at the TATIUC main campus, while another 200 more will be placed at the hostel of International Training Centre (ITC) which makes the total number of 2,600 to be accommodated at the same time.
"We are now using all the available hostel facilities including renting several buildings at the Awana Kijal to be used as temporary student accommodation.
"For the construction of new accommodation complex, TATIUC already has a suitable site for the construction and it is a part of the basic infrastructures that has been designed to upgrade TATIUC to be a full-skilled university in 2015," he told the reporters after officiating the closing ceremony of the TATIUC Student Orientation Week 2011/2012 session, held at the main campus last night.
Also present was the Deputy Rector of Academic and Internationalization, Dr Zunaidi Ibrahim and the Deputy Rector of Corporate Affairs, Tuan Haji Zulkifli Mohamad.
At the ceremony, about 804 new students have been reciting the pledge of TATIUC as a sign of the beginning of their new life as a student who will undergo various fields at certificate, diploma and first degree level.
Meanwhile, Dr Rozailan said TATIUC will also create a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nigeria Youth Foundation to carry out short-term skills courses at certificate level for six months here and the total amount of 200 youth will be trained annually.
"In mid-August, the first group of 50 Nigerian students will register to attend the six-month welding course. Several other courses such as automotive, electrical and so on will also be given, "he said to Sinar Harian.
Commenting on this year's intake of students, he said, this time the session of recruiting students has made its history of over 804 students register including from Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Sudan for courses at certificate, diploma and first degree level.
