NTU signs four-year Strategic ICT Partnership with Logicalis UK

Tom Kelly and Professor Neil Gorman
Wednesday 17 June 2009

International solutions provider, Logicalis UK, today announced that it has signed
a four-year strategic ICT partnership with Nottingham Trent University, working as
its exclusive partner to help procure and deliver innovation and long-term ICT
benefit into the University.
Under the terms of the contract, Nottingham Trent University and Logicalis will
continually assess and evolve the contract according to the needs of the University,
resulting in a framework that is highly competitive and flexible in its technology.
This is one of the first contracts in higher education to provide a model that ensures
ongoing best value for product and professional services, whilst maintaining a strategic
relationship with one exclusive partner.
As one of the largest universities in the country, Nottingham Trent University recognises
the importance of ICT investment to the continuous teaching leadership and student
experience. David Swayne, Director of Information Systems at the University, explains:
“We are committed to investing in innovative technology that will enable year-on-year
improvements in efficiencies. Working collaboratively with a strategic partner such as
Logicalis we are able to create and implement a long-term information management
strategy that benefits staff and students alike.”
Within the terms of the partnership, Logicalis will work closely with the University on
the design and implementation of a robust IT platform that will streamline the delivery
of information across all three of its campuses; datacentres, virtualisation, storage and
wired/wireless networking technologies will be tightly integrated with innovative unified
communications and collaborative applications.
Specifically, Logicalis will play a pivotal role in the development of Nottingham Trent
University’s Newton and Arkwright building regeneration scheme. Logicalis’ ICT
consultancy is being integrated at the architect and planning stages, to ensure the
refurbished university buildings can enjoy a state-of-the-art infrastructure from the
outset, supporting an enhanced, interactive student learning environment.
“The Newton and Arkwright project is groundbreaking,” comments Tom Kelly,
managing director for Logicalis UK. “It will become a landmark example of old
versus new; marrying sympathetic architectural design, which remains loyal to the
history and culture of Nottingham, with high-tech facilities and services that are
available to both students and the local community.
“To be selected as Nottingham Trent University’s strategic ICT partner is a
fantastic opportunity, and is demonstrable of our mission to deliver innovation
that has tangible benefits and a return on investment. From both sides, this is a
committed partnership designed to enhance the learning experience of students,
academics and faculty members, and will position Nottingham Trent University
as a flagship university.”
